Montegray Petit Verdot 2015
The Wine:
This wine boasts with brooding, dark berry, pencil shavings and black pepper aromas on the nose. It is deep centred with a full ripe mid palate of berry compote. Earthy and solid – not clumsy. The surprisingly soft, integrated tannin structure lingers on the tongue, with a whiff of cinnamon floating away.
This is a wine made from grapes grown in Stellenbosch. It was matured in second fill French Oak barrels for eight months before bottling. Although never seen as a stand-alone variety and only regarded as a blending component, it was decided to bottle it as such as its inky purple hue is quite remarkable and both its tannins and acidity are moderate.
